Elizabeth Oltmans Ananat

Elizabeth Oltmans Ananat is a Ph.D. candidate in economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her research interests include the causes of U.S. poverty and inequality and the ways in which social policy can be redesigned to better address these problems. Recent papers have focused on barriers faced by welfare recipients, the effect of child care subsidies on poor women's labor supply, the causes of persistent racial segregation, and the effects of the rising divorce rate on inequality. She earned a Master of Public Policy from the University of Michigan in 2001 and is the recipient of a Jacob K. Javits Graduate Fellowship.
