Matissa
Hollister
Matissa Hollister is a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology and Social Policy at Harvard University and a Doctoral Fellow in the Multidisciplinary Program on Inequality and Social Policy. Her dissertation topic is “Escaping Poverty in the New Economy: Careers and Intergenerational Mobility Among Two Cohorts of the National Longitudinal Surveys,” an investigation of the routes through which individuals growing up in poor households achieve upward mobility through the labor market and how these routes have changed over time. She has particular interests in employment opportunities for disadvantaged workers, organizational and institutional influences in labor markets, wage structures and mobility, and inequality. Before attending Harvard, Matissa worked for nonprofit community development organizations and received a Master in City Planning degree in Community and Economy Development from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her awards include the Harvard Elliot Dissertation Completion Fellowship, the Taubman Center Urban Award for Papers on the Implementation and Management of Programs to Serve the Poor, and the John F. Kennedy School Dean’s Award for Excellence in Student Teaching. |
