Tomás Roberto Jiménez

Tomás Roberto Jiménez is the American Sociological Association Congressional Fellow, and works with Congressman Mike Honda (D-CA) on immigration and poverty issues. A 2004 recipient of a Ph.D. in sociology from Harvard University, his research focuses on immigration, immigrant-group incorporation, racial and ethnic identity, and racial and ethnic relations. He is particularly interested in how social policy can better facilitate the incorporation of immigrants and their children into core educational, political, economic, and social institutions in American society. His current research focuses on relations between Mexican immigrants and Mexican Americans in Garden City, Kansas and Santa Maria, California. He has also published research on the ethnic identification of the children of inter-ethnic marriages. Tomas is co-authoring an article on the immigrant experience that will appear in the 2005 edition of the Annual Review of Sociology. He has received research grants from the National Science Foundation, the American Sociological Association, and Harvard University. In addition to his affiliation with New Vision, Tomas is a Trustee at Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California.
