With our hallmark attention to empirical rigor combined with political relevance,New Vision works in a wide variety of domestic public policy spheres. We focus on areas that we believe have the potential for innovative government policy to offer fundamental impacts on American opportunity and security.
In particular, New Vision aims to tackle issues that fit one or more of the following criteria:
01> Empirical evidence can offer insight into both current policy and potential policy solutions.
02> The politics are potentially malleable. We are especially interested in issues that offer the potential for coalition building, especially amongst unlikely partners (e.g. Democrats and Republicans, business and labor).
03> Public opinion matters. We are especially interested in issues that can be framed in terms of public values, issues that highlight a contradiction in public values, and issues that can be reframed to reflect public values in order to generate support.
Our current products include:
Policy briefs, our most pragmatic attempts to articulate specific policy steps that could be taken to solve social problems. Often tied in a timely fashion to on-going policy debates, they make the case for why a given choice is preferable to alternatives, and offer specific cost estimates for their proposals.
Vision briefs, which represent broader efforts to reshape the political debate. These documents aim to develop the kind of broad frameworks that will shape more specific policy choices.
